ruaha national park
Ruaha is Tanzania’s second largest park, after the Serengeti, with a variety of habitats and wildlife. Palm trees, baobobs, figs and tamarinds are found around the Ruaha river, providing food and sanctuary to a great diversity of animals. There are also grassy plains and tracts of dry miombo woodland. Occasional visitors include packs of the rare African hunting dog, as well as the resident elephants, giraffes, lions, sable and Greater Kudu. From July to October the wildlife is concentrated around the banks of the river and the watering holes.
