Lake Nakuru National Park is in Kenya's Great Rift Valley, a massive pre-historic fissure which stretches from Jordan in the Middle East to Mozambique in Southern Africa. It was created a national park to protect its stunning flocks of Greater and Lesser flamingo that - at certain times of the year - can literally turn its shores pink. More recently the park was established as a rhino sanctuary, and is also home to leopard, lion, buffalo, Rothschild Giraffe, Colobus monkeys, and a variety of plains antelope.
