The Aberdare National Park is part of the Aberdare mountain range, where mountain peaks soar to around 14,000 feet, then give way to deep V-shaped valleys with streams and rivers cascading over spectacular waterfalls. The lower slopes of this mountainous terrain are covered with lush rainforest, home to elephant, buffalo, giant forest hog and the endangered black rhino. Also abundant are lion, leopard, baboon, black and white colobus and Sykes monkeys.

Best time to go: Game viewing is good throughout the year but best during the dry season months of July to October and January to March
